What you're forgetting is that a big reason there aren't as many new maps as there used to be is lack of time. Everyone's grown up and gotten full time jobs, so they either don't have enough spare time to make maps, or have so little spare time that they'd simply rather work on other things. Throw some families into the mix and you've doubled the problem.

A mapping competition or two might be a good idea, but 2 per year at the most. People won't have time to make anything more, and reducing the time between competitions by adding more of them won't help things.

I don't think it's going to happen though. I don't think anyone's going to put up funds for something like that. There was some talk a while ago about 3DR hosting some mapping competitions themselves, however that never materialized. Now that Gearbox owns the game, it's never going to happen on that front.

No one is going to start paying people to map. If we have to pay people in order to have maps, the community deserves to die.

Perhaps we need something like another 2 hour CBP. Or the 1 hour 30 minute micro map episode.

Tight restrictions often bring out good results, like with Duke Hard. Plus they don't require a large investment of time or effort from the mapper.
