Just to let you guys know (for those who don't visit Duke4) Episode two is out now :)

Here are the mirrors, first one isn't ready yet but second should be good to go:
http://www.moddb.com/games/the-amc-tc/downloads/amc-tc-episode-two-v10
http://dukeworld.duke4.net/2001-current/tc/amctc/

The madmen behind the AMC TC Episode two are James Stanfield, Michael Crisp, Sangluss, Mikko Sandt, Cedric 'Zaxtor Znort' Lutes, Loke, and Snowfall (with certain maps using segments built by Highwire, DavoX, and Mike Von Skellington)

Well this is a pleasant surprise.

And it's designed to use the classic renderer as well so it's available to a wider audience who don't have super computers? Fantastic!

The episode has a lot of stuff going on so the framerate can dip sometimes if you're running at a high resolution on an older computer. Judging by what TX says, polymost is faster than classic anyway.

Gee I'm starting to feel a bit like Sanek. I'm still going to work on episode 3 but I did expect the initial reaction to be a bit bigger than it was. Maybe it's just a matter of lack of advertising and being early days. You can really feel that the community has gotten smaller since Episode 1 was released in 2011 though.

Which is kinda funny because when Megaton & DNF (2013) were released, a lot more people were playing Duke3D than in what must have been at least a decade. So, there are tons of people out there with an interest in Duke3D, it's just that usermaps don't seem to get a lot of feedback these days (=the past year and a half). In any case, the TC is a lot of work to play through.

Trust me we all feel like Sanek hehehe As for user maps not getting much attention I don't know about that, on steam workshop there is plenty of people but around the Duke world we have a lot of people who ignore others unless it's someone they know there isn't much room. I would give more feedback for this just haven't had a chance to play I think it looks great. Good job guys from weapons to maps it all looks official to me. My new job is really taking a toll on my time sorry about that. Keep it up and don't be discouraged.

Thanks...we kinda forgot how big the TC is all together so of course it's gonna take a while for people to get through it :)
Quotearound the Duke world we have a lot of people who ignore others unless it's someone they know there isn't much room.
This is true, unfortunately I'm guilty of this (at least not leaving feedback on usermaps) and it's something that I should try and amend, but it's easier said than done (because I want to try and put more effort than saying 'nice job' but sometimes that's all that comes to mind)

Also, some people (like me) simply don't have a lot of spare time. I can't finish this in one go, but I'll add my 2 cents once I've played it. :) It's great to see this released btw!

Heh, that's no problem - we got a bit carried away with the size lol :D Thanks, hopefully you enjoy it too!

...and since i was helping test it (nothing to brag about - even though I was a bit late joining in the development process and unnecessarily felt rushed - probably didn't do as good of job as I should have; yet you still put my name in the credits), you pretty much got all my feedback about the levels, presentation, game options, etc., so that's one less person to make a public forum comment.
If you take all the nuances of this TC; it's one of the best ones. Top three in my book (I have sentimental and nostalgic attachments to some of that older stuff). On the technical side and map design aspect; probably the best.

I do apologize if you felt rushed a bit, I was kind of desperate to get it out ASAP but it looks like that was a bit hasty (albeit as far as I can tell EP2's campaign is fairly bug free which is the most important) I was definitely happy with all the beta testing and you've always given great feedback (which is why you've beta tested all of my big projects so far apart from the very first IW)

Forge might be a nitpicker in some peoples eyes...
In my opinion he's the best tester I've came across.
The reason why I used the word 'nitpicker' is because he always seems to find those bugs everybody else can't point out.
Also counting Merlijn as a wonderful tester in the days where he had more time on his hands  ;)

Gonna spend a few hours dugged into this one this weekend I presume.

The TC is huge and full of features. A few bugs are to be expected, but you should feel good about it since it seems most professional / studio released games of late are damn near broke they're so flawed.

Cheers! I've heard about the infamous Assassin's Creed Unity debacle (and apparently BF4 had a lot of issues at launch as well) I don't know if things have gotten worse though (I mean SiN was notoriously buggy when it was first released as well and it had like a 30mb patch back in 56k days)

Yeah there were frequent crashes. It wasn't that bad for me, maybe one crash every few rounds, but my friend had a crash in almost every round.

They did fix things pretty fast though, and there were no similar issues with BF:H so I guess they did learn something.

So I've been playing a bit of the first mission. Unfortunately, my framerate is pretty slow. This isn't your fault though, I don't play that many games anymore and my laptop is pretty old. I'll try to finish it anyway. :)

The intro level was great, loved the atmosphere. The city under siege is a lot of fun so far. I knew about the 3d-skyboxes, but I haven't seen them implemented in a level before. Definitely adds a lot of atmosphere, especially seeing the giant alien ship hovering above the city! I have to relearn all the gameplay mechanics, but it's not too hard. Also love the use of humor so far. Don't be a wanker, talk to a banker. :D

It might be a good idea to reduce your resolution a bit, which normally helps quite a bit. I do try and improve performance where I can, but I think it was worth it for what he managed to achieve. Happy to hear you're liking the level in anycase :)

Yeah I made sure there were a few good jokes lying around; wouldn't be a Duke 3D-style level without some humour. There's another funny poster in the bank, and one in the cinema as well  ;D

It does help to lower the resolution, I still get some sudden framerate drops from time to time but like I said thats not your fault. :P Most of the time it's perfectly playable, I just need to save often. My progress is super slow so I'm still in level 1 lol. But I like how the city gets gradually torn apart, really gets the idea across that the city is actually being invaded.

At this rate, by the time you finish Episode 3 will be out and you'd be able to continue straight on :P

Touche. ;D If it makes you feel better, this is the first time in 2015 I'm playing something duke-related. :) I'll post again if I made some substantial progress.

Well, I made it about halfway through the Wharf, but the lag is getting too bad now so I can't properly play the game :(. At least not on my ancient laptop. I'll find a workaround (probably going to install this on my parents pc so I can play whenever I visit them lol) but at the moment I'm stranded.

I'll just leave some short reviews about the stuff I did play. It's obviously very well made.

City under Siege:
as I said the hovering spaceship and the destruction really sell the idea of an ongoing invasion. The map feels like a throwback to the original game, but adds a lot of modern elements at the same time (scripted sequences, team mates, sense of progress etc.). Also enjoyed the shrunken parts, and the lego house. ;D Ammo was a bit sparse, but I managed to pull through.

The alien bit reminded me of Imperium, but this might be a coincidence since both are inspired by Unreal. Didn't really enjoy being restricted to one weapon, but it didn't overstay its welcome. The final sequence with the alien space ship was nice. It reminded me: at one point we wanted to add a similar sequence to the Imperium episode. The alien space shuttle (at the end of L4) was supposed to be flyable, but we eventually abandoned the idea.

Big Trouble in China: I remember the beta version of this map, fun romp. One of the cleanest maps Sang made. Again, the skybox and the unreachable scenery add a lot to the level. Funny how the gameplay is almost the opposite of the last one: ammo, guns and health everywhere and a contant supply of baddies. Fun map, also great subway ride at the end.

The wharf
: as I said, I'm not able to finish this yet. I liked what I saw so far, especially the sushi-restaurant. Well designed and balanced gameplay.

reducing resolution an option?

If you open up the amc_settings.txt file, you can change some of the performance options to hopefully help a little bit :) Glad you're enjoying it so far despite the fps problems though!
QuoteThe alien bit reminded me of Imperium, but this might be a coincidence since both are inspired by Unreal.
Micky's got a map more directly inspired by Imperium in the works - The Skaarj mothership in Unreal (and a bunch of UT usermaps) was my inspiration for that bit :)

Merlijn and Co have seen a pic or two of the WIP map when I sent them some emails asking permission to use X64 plus an Imperium concept, and some advice on the texturing at one point.

However I haven't had time to work on it for a while. So essentially I feel like the real Merlijn already  ;D

@ Forge: tried that, didn't improve enough. :(

@: James: cool, I'll try that! Of course I'm enjoying it, loved episode one and this one seems to be on par so far. :) About the alien ship, yeah I figured it was inspired by Unreal. If the design wasn't enough, the music definitely gave it away. Really cool, I still love that game.

QuoteHowever I haven't had time to work on it for a while. So essentially I feel like the real Merlijn already

haha, watch out or your map will take years to finish! ;) Although, to my credit, I never abandoned my projects. They just.. went into coma.  ;D

Another area of Hong Kong. Felt Episode 2's Hong Kong level was slightly lacking in the verticality and conceptual grandness department.
