Classic Duke 3D / Re: Last map you played

CyberDuke by Eye del Cul

The premiss is that you're trapped inside a Unix operating system that's been infected with a virus. The virus is, of course, defending itself with aliens and it can be a pretty hectic battle in some spots to get them out.
It's an open map as far as moving from location to location is concerned, and after you enter your password at the su console and collect all the keys, it becomes very non-linear and you can go pretty much where ever you want.
The general feel of the map is supposed to simulate being inside a computer file system, so there's some interesting texture combos and alot of pastels. The layout is fairly simple and the architecture mostly blocky, but it is still well designed to simulate the environment of which the author intended to accomplish.

Interesting concept well executed, not too hard to navigate, with minimal detailing and trimming breaks the pastels can wear on the eyes,  but worth your time for some fun fire fights.

Texturing/Lighting-Shading:8/10
Sprite Work/Detailing:7/10
Ambiance: 9/10
Architecture/: 18/20
Layout: 18/20
Gameplay/Design: 28/30
Overall: 88/100

Classic Duke 3D / Reviews and Submissions
08 December 2011, 16:29:29
Welcome to Come Get Some.

This site is recently opened and getting off the ground. While our grand administrator, Puritan, works hard on getting a data base put together and adding content to the site, we welcome our members to submit reviews for excellent maps and mods that they feel deserve some attention, recognition, and would like to see hosted.

Puritan's intent is to host as many excellent releases as possible.

Feel free to submit a review for your favorite maps and mods here in this topic. All that is required is a write up describing the map/mod, six(preferably) or more screen shots, and a link to the file. If you want to submit a review, but would rather not post up in this thread, e-mail your submission to Puritan at    Administrator@scent-88.com or myself at forge@scent-88.com  Even if doing reviews is not your thing, providing solid suggestions and recommendations will contribute to future content.

Important!

A submitted map and/or review uploaded here will not be changed whatsoever.
Be absolutely sure that the map/review is done before releasing it.

Been enjoying American football lately. The team I like is doing fairly well so it garners network interest. I get to watch their games instead of having to look at the local teams games to monitor the league score ticker on the bottom of the screen..

'course the NHL Hockey team I like is on the opposite coast so I hardly ever get to watch them.

I'll give it a look some time today

edit: are you sure this should be played in 8-bit? it's pretty buggy that way & I thought i read @ duke4 that tror works best with polymer.

the beginning street area is a bit too crowded, there's plenty of health, but nothing for ammo except the three weapons themselves and whatever the aliens drop (if any), the last door to the nuke button should be key locked and the key put in the second area leading off from the  water "industrial processing" pool room

nice detailing and architecture, good layout and flow, proper mix of enemies, the few select weapons for the arsenal were properly selected to handle the aliens (see: need more ammo comment)

This map should be expanded  and finished (suggest adding to the area I mentioned putting the key in - something across the trellis/skywalk platform at the dead end door & have it loop around and enter the large pool room at another point), it has alot of potential to be excellent (also research and consider changing rendering for the max tror potential)

I noticed under my profile settings there's an option to "Return to topics after posting by default".

If the option is selected, I actually return to the thread I just posted in and not back to the topics (like I mentioned earlier).
The option is actually doing the opposite of what it says.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — NASA's planet-hunting Kepler spacecraft has confirmed the discovery of its first alien world in its host star's habitable zone — that just-right range of distances that could allow liquid water to exist — and found more than 1,000 new exoplanet candidates, researchers announced today (Dec. 5).

The new finds bring the Kepler space telescope's total haul to 2,326 potential planets in its first 16 months of operation. These discoveries, if confirmed, would quadruple the current tally of worlds known to exist beyond our solar system, which recently topped 700.

The potentially habitable alien world, a first for Kepler, orbits a star very much like our own sun. The discovery brings scientists one step closer to finding a planet like our own — one which could conceivably harbor life, scientists said.

Three blondes are walking through the forest. They come upon some tracks.

The first blonde says, "They're deer tracks."
The second blonde says, "They're bear tracks."
The third blonde says, "They're moose tracks."

Then a train hits them.

A friend of mine who worked in a machine/weld shop actually used this as a blueprint and made it.

Thanks guys! I'll make a band topic soon enough.
I think the best comparison I've heard thus far was "you guys kinda sound like Pink Floyd meets Metallica!" Heh, it's not that far from the thruth I guess.  :P

In the mean time you can click on this link:
http://www.ffcentraal.nl/band-best-band-of-holland/calculated

and press on the big button on the left that says 'STEM!' (which means 'vote' in dutch). We have to gather as much votes as possible in order to make to the finals of this band competition called "best band of holland", so any help would be greatly appreciated!  ;)

Also, you can vote again on each day.

Calculated is a Dutch rockband from Heerhugowaard, founded on the 11th of november, 2008. Our music incorporates various styles and is generally very diverse, but we still have a signature sound (and a lot of curly hair!). To describe our sound is pretty hard in itself - sweet pianopieces, pshychedelic sounds, melanchonic vocal melodies.. they mix remarkably well with heavy guitarriffs, growling baslines, crazy synthesizersolo's and agressive drumming. Sometimes you'll hear all of the above in the same song! Despite all that, the songs still remain catchy and memorable. We invite you to take a listen!

Members:
Merlijn van Oostrum - vocals/keyboards/guitar
Maarten van Oostrum - vocals/keyboards/guitar
Ivar de Hoogt - drums
Lars Jonker - bass
Influences:
Porcupine tree, Pink Floyd, Metallica, John Frusciante, System of a down
Sounds Like:
experimental, with a slight emphasis on mental.
