So finally after 9 months of work, I'm giving birth to this two-maps episode including many innovations.

MILL TOWN RAMPAGE
v1.0

The map is designed and meant to be played with HRP / Polymost.
(See .txt file for more details about other mode).

This new episode takes place in a mill town under the grips of an agressive alien presence. The city now seems mostly abandoned on its own and
immerses players into a sordid and realistic industrial complexs. New sounds package and music level are joined to sustain an already strong ambiance.

Given the size of the file exceeding 30 Mo, I couldn't post it here directly.
Here is the link to download it :
  http://www.sendspace.com/file/xho9td

On the page, choose "Click here to start download from sendspace" (other download buttons are just adverts)
Unzip the .rar file (not the zip) in your DN main folder, and run the .bat file.

Screenshots below gives a preview ;

It's already finished 2 weeks ago, so yes I could wait for the week-end.
Thanks  ;)

Regarding a new 2-maps episode I have just finished, I would need a second beta tester for Polymost so I get another opinion about gameplay or whatsoever.
The two levels are a little big together, so if someone is interested and have enough time then just email me.

Well I don't know what happened, but you're right.
I need some holidays I think...  ::)

Hello everybody.

I should maybe point out a downside about the fact one can't find the CGS website during a research... let's take the google search engine, to give an example.
And I think it's a little sad for many of those who have never heard about CGS and other websites related, and are willing to come back to the game after a long time
and find maps.

Maybe you feel this point irrelevant ? Otherwise I've made a little test first by typing "duke nukem 3d" and I've fallen with duke4.net in the first result page.
No other website were mentionned after that, even not in the other ten pages ! (well I didn't really went so far but...)   :-\

In a second time, I've tried with "duke nukem 3d maps", and this time I've found :
- DN Repository at the top of the results.
- Mikko Sandt website comes further but still in the first page.
- Ck3d website appears in the second page, thus clearly visible...

Now CGS remains invisible while it's one of the best quality website. So there is no tracking in any case.
Excepted one thing, when I try "come get some" I find CGS... in the second page. But of course, who will think type this first so to find DN3D, recent stuff or related forums when the guy doesnt know ?

Is there anything foreseen in the future for improvement ?

The gameplay was interesting; I liked the respawns at each step of the path - especially when you have to get a blue card in front of a double door close to the monument and suddenly aliens appears everywhere. Well designed fights has been the strong point.

In those times of exaltation, I'm posting some new screenshots about my incoming 2-maps episode. The release time is now approaching with a 1.5 Mo project (+30Mo sounds & music package joined with) and more than 25000 walls into two large maps. The first image shows a subway station; the second one give a preview of an industrial part localised in the second map. But I won't tell more for the moment. The beast is coming...

I'm coming lately to tell my opinion about technical and complex effects. It's not essential to create a great map for me, just a nice addition.
Forge & Ck are right about the fact that atmosphere and innovation make all the difference : in this case, the added complex effects will kick ass and sustain an already immersive map.

But not the opposite : if atmosphere is lacking, environment looks dead, then advanced effects cannot catch up that difference. Is here the waste. The other major point is of course the gameplay, especially the progression in the map. The advanced effects, explosions, earthquake, crashes or whatsoever being something coming only after all that.

I came across a video on youtube and saw maps for DN3D Atomic Edition about Shining movie theme using new arts.
So I whish I could download these maps (shining and shining 2 - from Austin Adams ?? not sure, maybe he's just the guy who post the demo) but there are not available on DN repository neither.

here's one of the links availables :

Making an episode with former maps / nice remakes - which already belong to a logic serie - is a great idea : a personalised "Red" episode will obviously be noticed, it brings much interest, more satisfaction. Episodes are very rarely released.

I also thought about doing a remake, take an ancient release of mine and use it as a start for a new map, barely recognizable compared to the original and offering by this way a new version free from all the downsides the original map was suffering.

My worst map is a prison map I did in the last 90's.

Short review : 2 min. gameplay, no shading, only 1 texture used, 53 errors - corruption level 4.
I still have it on my HD. At this time, I was a bad beginner.

I've played the map. The construction of the place was solid and realistic... moreover good enough to create a gameplay, an oriented action map. The fact there were no ennemies gave a feeling of void. I think octabrains (moreover it has tentacles !) and some other weird monsters would have been really suitable.

IMO the complete absence of ennemies weakened the atmosphere I guess, which would have been stronger when you meet something dangerous at least in some areas you don't expect.

But it's a choice, I can't blame for that. It's just my personal vision, maybe not the truth.

Everybody gets that error message when firing up EDuke  ;)

But when you're saying you have problems...
Doesn't the game start?
No, it doesn"t. A message ask if we want to use internal defauts, and after having accepted the launching crashes.
But nevermind, I've just found a good solution. I've got now a correct user.con file and all of those troubles disappears.
Therefore it cames from user.con especially. I posted cause I wanted to know the cause.
