So now I'm at the last level, For providence. Yeah I know, I'm slow as hell. ;)
So far, Millhaven is still my favorite. Revolution was pretty cool as well (I especially liked the design of the city - those burning buildings in the background were a great touch).

However, I do think the Revolution maps have some flaws. For one, the AI of the comrades wasn't very good, they kept getting stuck and the fell off the sprite bridge and got stuck in the water 2 times (I had to replay that part 3 times). Secondly, the boss fight was a bit too hard (as someone on Duke4.net also pointed out). And lastly, it didn't really connect with the rest of the episode, storywise. Would have been better as a separate mission

(but then we're getting close to Forges idea, to give every character their own little background adventure.. I think I'll go ahead and make a map for my own character, even though it won't be as ambitious or conceptually grand as these official levels.. I don't think I have the time for that  :-\).

Anyway, back to the final level. I've played earlier beta's of it, so I know it's a kick-ass level already. ;) Can't wait to properly finish the episode though!

Roch 4 was the first Roch map I've ever played. Needless to say, I was amazed by it. It's still one of the best of the series, thanks to the gameshow element and that great looking castle.

I've played the first 2 roch maps. It's bizarre to see how fast Pascal was developping his skills back then. Roch 2 still looks good by todays standards and has a great layout IMO. I also prefer Roch 2 over Roch 3 for some reason..

Roch3

I like watching how things improve and get more complex from one map to the next

unfortunately, this map has a few design flaws

What a coincidence, I just played that map a few days ago.  :)
Some of the unreachable scenery looks a bit dated, but a very good map anyway. The train station is probably my favorite part.

Red4 biggest problem: it's really cramped at times (especially the staircases). I prefer both red3 and red5 over it, although I still really like the layout and the ending sequence of red4.

Well, who knows.. I first need to get understand how all the features work. :)
Millhaven is an amazing level btw, great music as well (Nine inch nails?).

I haven't finished the episode yet, but one of the coolest aspects is the immenseness of the world, almost feels like 10 years of mapping are combined in a huge, cohesive world (even planet x64-2 gets a mention!).
It's too bad those precog machines from the Megabase levels are such a small plot point though. It has a lot of potential IMO.

Anyway, I kinda want to make a map for my own character now.  :P A part of Amsterdam taken over by demons or something..

Of my released work, redduke (aka red1) is easily the worst. Especially the oversizing is pretty bad, it feels like you're a midget half of the time.  ;D Funny thing is, at the time I thought this map was the best thing ever.  :P I was really proud of some stuff, especially the house (which has 2 entire floors on top of each other).. so the negative review on MSDN was quite a shock. Now, I can easily see all the big flaws and I don't like this level anymore.

I've got some levels that predate redduke, but most of them are lost sadly. :( They shared the same problems redduke had, but they were even worse..

Another map I'm not satisfied with is roch Island, mainly because of gameplay issues. But that was a collaboration, so technically it's not one of my maps.  :P

Well, you basically should forget the premise of the original red1, since the remake was started from scratch and throws in a lot of different and additional ideas. It's still the same basic idea - you still start in a book shop, go through a lot of canyons, find the 'Rock' restaurant etc., but I couldn't resist expanding the map. No wonder my maps always take so long to finish.  :P
