The images in the header are always taken from the first four maps in the " Latest 10 maps" section on the same page.
And the images on the front page are also identical with the first image you'll see in the review pages.

I've uploaded Gambinis: It_lives today.
Replayed it yesterday and it was well worth the 30 minutes or so!
An epic map it is ;)
Any plans to put up banners to other pages like MSDN, AMC, & Duke4 to name a few?
I keep listing off shit, if I knew how to help, I would
Yep, I've been planning to do that ;)
btw: Added a button on the main menu called "Front"...
Have a quite modified/updated version of the front page almost ready for "Grand Opening" :P
With a section dedicated to the DN3D community.

There's no DM maps here :o
I can submit two of mine :
_The new version of "spaceship to fix"
_Doomed duel
If you want,i 've some overpalyed maps from zillas, tyrannous python and some unknown ones if you never touched to yang :D
Can i add my old "Paradisiac shopping" too ? Iv'e made a new version...
PS : New version means Texturing fixes, less bugs...
PPS : Where can i sent my files ?
Hey mate.
The to-do list is growing :D
No problems hosting both your SP and DM maps.
But if you want 'em reviewed it will take some time.
If you want an upload and "pending" review just send your maps to me with 6 screenshots ( important).
Email address should be in my avatar.

Neither do I.
It seems that reviews for DM maps could be user made?
Thanks, guys. Figure I can tackle Extermination afterward. Reviews that are worth the time to read can be a pain in the ass to write, so I'm sure Puritan and Forge need all the help they can get with this stuff.
Two more maps bunged to our server.
Retaliation and Hydrofusion Substation.
Thanks to Forge and EmericaSkater for review and screenshots! ;)

I appreciate the help. Figuring if I do at the minimum two a day (realistically I'm averaging one a day and TCs will take even longer), it will take around a year to catch up to DN-R's collection.
Well, let me expresses my opinions :
_I can easily review all DM's (i play them ;) ).
For the ones i've created,i will just review the gameplay and another body will rate the aesthetic, shading work,...etc...
_For my next reviews(if you allow me ;) ),it's necessary to give an official marking scheme. When i see that RPCD got 94/100 ,i was sick.23 : 17 deserved 140/100 :-\
It was the big problem of DNR.
_But i 'm totally against "6 screenshoots law" for Sp maps.I want to mean than that spoils the pleasure of players. The main interest of Duke maps is the uncovery :-[
_And i think that the idea of mapper of the month must be developped by adding challenge on a spécial theme or mini project of coop-mapping,something like that...

Six shots is really no big deal. (PlanetPhillip.com usually have at least 30 shots, sometimes 100! ....yeah I know, it's HL2 but anyway...)
When I'm taking screenies I try not to reveal important parts of a map. That's more a technically issue.

Mapper of the month will not have a theme.

You never know ;)

The intent on mapper of the month is to give props to accomplished mappers from the past and present, not to focus soley on new mappers. That's what latest map is for. My only suggestion would be to expand the latest map from one (two if you count latest mod), to maybe four for the next year or so because I predict alot of uploads will be occurring over that initial time span while the database is being filled.

It was the big problem of DNR.
I see no problem with you submitting reviews for DM maps, but the general rules still apply, provide the file, the write up, and 6 screenshots.
I don't think reviewing your own maps will fly very well though. Due to personal biases, other people will assume you're giving yourself unfair high marks. Whether you have the integrity to score your maps properly or not doesn't matter, it's the impression of other people looking at it and assuming you don't.
The big problem with the reviews at DN-R was the fact that all the "official" reviewers bailed on the site and left one moderator there by himself. Keeping the site up and running became a huge chore by itself so he didn't have the time to do full reviews. That put him in the position of having to ask the community for assistance. Now you have multiple people submitting reviews. While the write-ups themselves were fairly good, now you a have a situation where everyone has a different sense of scoring a map so there was no common scale from one map to the next.
I really don't have much of an issue with that because the many submissions from many different people actually created a colorful spread of interesting reading from one style to the next. Not everyone has the same skill as Mikko to be able to write fresh reviews over and over. To me it made the write ups actually mean something instead of the same general, half-paragraph blurb from the same individual over and over.
I don't think the scores varied too wildly from one person to the next. Probably no more than up to 5 points one way or the other (about the same as some of my scores varied from Mikko's). Sometimes you just have to look at who did the review and compare it to their general disposition and tastes.

It's on my to-do list ;)
I encountered that problem with multiple uploads / releases on the same day..
Having four slots for new releases is over the top at normal circumstances.
But as Forge pointed out; It's a good idea to have a temporary four slot area for releases while we pull the database together :)
It seems to be something odd going on about zip files downloaded from review pages.. :o
I downloaded "Hydrofusion Substation" and unzipped it with no problems but there are zip files that seems corrupted.
Didn't find any messages on my host homepage about anything unusual going on...
I just want to describe the gameplay of my maps as tests showed it.DM's experience are really different than sp's.
A DM gameplay can be really impossible to rate because it owns to player's personality .
Some maps are mostly targeted on dexterity, others are mostly strategical ,others are focused on the prediction of opponet's moves...and this, with a lot of combinations.
To be fair,i've stopped to play online for a while because usually people prefer Rpg's kickass, cheated maps (which contains secrets that have all stuff) than intelligent maps like "hollywood holocaust" or others.
So my maps are not overplayed :-[
(But i know the formulae to make atttractiv/stupid DM so, await me for making a legend 8) )

Sounds fair to me :)
Seems the files you first uploaded (before the forum was off the ground) are corrupt as are several of the most recent ones, only a couple of the latest ones that have recently been reviewed and bunged to the server are fine (hydrostation, cyberduke - i didn't check them all), . I think you need to delete all files and re-upload them with fresh ones.
the zips act like they're either weren't "completely" uploaded or "completely" downloaded. keeps giving the "unexpected end of file" error
It isn't quite like that either...
Retaliation is a "fresh" upload....and with corrupted zip file.
i simply don't understand it :(
I've re-zipped and re-uploaded several zip's with no luck.
I did use different programs to zip 'em up too...
And the files act like normal on my comp.
Must be a ftp client and/or server issue.
hydrofusion substation, cyberduke, extermination, are the only maps/ mods that are good. the rest of the files are corrupt (i can open and repair them with winrar, after that they work fine)
i can only guess that something went wrong with them during upload/added to the database
The file you attached to the post in the map thread works just fine, so it's not your comp that's causing the problems (unless there's some anti-virus/firewall software that's restricting your ftp protocol)
did some reading at the help forum, don't know if this will help
these are taken out of context because I didn't want to quote the whole thing, but these were problems with attached and uploaded files using ftp
If you use ASCII file transfer type, the downloaded file will be all messed up. You must use type "I" or "img", rather than ascii
Your FTP client will download these files as ASCII files if you have "AUTO" turned on under "Transfer Type"!!!! This corrupts the attachments and makes them unusable. I re-downloaded my /attachments folder from my old server with "BINARY" turned on under "Transfer Type" and once re-uploaded to my new server, everything works perfectly again.
If you test the Zip file before uploading it to an FTP server and no errors are reported, but after uploading the Zip file is damaged, the behavior is likely to be due to corruption of the Zip file during the file transfer. Please note that when transferring via FTP, the binary mode must be used; a text or ASCII transfer will always result in corruption of a Zip file
Thank you for your concern ;)
I think I found it.
The newest version of ftp client "Filezilla" seems to be the bad guy.
I've downloaded an another ftp client and now it works!
I was starting to sweat now... :-[
Edit: It turned out to be that ASCII/Binary thing that you mentioned in your previous post.
glad you found out the problem and it was an easy fix. the files seem to be fine now and also appear to download faster than before

Yep, that is implemented in my database ;)
Popping in to say that the Crucial Conflict series by Maarten Pinxten is now complete here at Come Get Some!
Great thanks to Forge for his great work on the reviews ;)
This site is totally ad-free ;)
I'm not sure wether some advertisings would generate any money...
But I'm not particular fond of web sites brimmed with ad's.
Hmmm...think I'm going to keep this place ad-free :)
If you later decide to advertise, you could fit a gog, steam, or whatever banner next to the come get some logo at the top of the screen
Maybe you can get merlijn to sell Calculated cd's here ;)
I saw the phrase on the front page; "Primary focusing on user made maps and conversions of a satisfying quality!", and was wondering, does that mean the site just ignores new maps that aren't all that good?
Could be...
I've seen a couple of attempted releases of pure crap (no names mentioned) over at DNR the last couple of years that I don't wanna spend money/bandwidth on ;)
Having said that, most releases the last years is of a very good quality.
So, I don't think this is gonna be a issue at all :)
And for newbies is there threads here ( or create one) that could be covering releases/feedback in the forums.
That might be a good way to increase their skills and at a point the map would be "qualified" for the front page and map base.
Spread the word!
Click the Facebook "Like" button on the front page! :D
low priority, but is it possible to scoot the latest map & mod box down and stretch the news & events box from the left frame all the way across to the right frame? The news box seems kinda small, barely big enough to fit a short sentence.
^That would be a hell of a job.... :-[
I'll look into it later.
Merry Christmas!
A searchable database with all our maps and mods is now available!

What's the deal with the "quote of the day"? The same quote has been up ever since I can remember.
Because Gambini do not write on this forum everyday ;D
As you may know, the 'new' front page is now launched.
I've been working my ass off the last two months in order to get this site to what it is today.
I started off with a limited HTML acknowledge and launched a site in progress, so to speak.
After a while it was clear to me that I had to build a database and a way to publish stuff requiring less work than the 'manual way'.
Well, I didn't knew shit about SQL and PHP so I had to start from scratch.
Feeling that the main work is done by know.
Uploading and publishing stuff is now way easier than it used to be, giving me more time to fill up the map base.
Expect the map base to grow faster in the future.
A great thanks to Forge for his work with the reviews.
Thanks to Supertanker for leading me in the right direction when I was stuck with some PHP code.
Thank you for your patience while building this site :)
Enjoy your stay!
PS: It seems that search engines like what we're doing here. Try this phrase in whatever engine you like: 'Duke Nukem maps and mods'

We're throwing in some maps with lower ratings as well just for the sake of having "well known" maps from back in the days available.
100 down, 400 more to go
I have a small issue with the RCBP review. I'm fairly certain it's the russian CBP, but it doesn't say so. Basically if a newcommer to the community comes and wants to download maps here, he's going to have no idea what the R stands for even after reading the review.
valid point, but there's the template
(and before someone takes it to the extreme and retorts with something like, "then all initials must be wrote out." it should be considered on a case by case basis)
Does anybody here ever talk to Nancsi?
I would like to use his review for the map "Reichskanzlei" by Peter Kucera.

That would have been nice. ;)
I'll take care of the screenshots.
Nice review, Forge ;)

using windows 7 and firefox. no display or font problems.
Thanks, I know It, I don't have any problem with IE and Firefox, the problem comes with Opera and Chrome (I'm changing to a new host browser but I haven't decided yet beetween opera or chrome, and casually both failed about this issue) What I would want to know is what font is used in that page, so I can reinstall it. Anyway I'm gonna make a further search on the problem.
I've noticed is Times New Roman, but I do have it installed already, I've replaced all the Opera fonts with Arial, but the problem persist :S
don't know if it'll help, but did you delete the browser cache after changing the font?
Well, DN3D is all about chicks and kicking alien asses.
I suppose the aliens are coming from space :P
The front page is now reflecting more like ....ah,well...space ;D
That's looking a lot better.
When I loaded the front page about a minute ago, my first thought is that I went to the wrong site. It now looks a lot more professional, but somehow it feels like it doesn't show as much information as before.
Thanks guys ;) I've put quite some work into this.
The amount of information is exactly the same as it was before actually.
Latest 5 maps is now latest 10 maps.
The only thing I removed is the second map entry ( Latest map II )
It looks cool, I like the color scheme.
Thanks Mike!
Now click the fb like button ;D
Done :D BTW Do you have facebook account?
Cool 8)
Yeah, I have. You should see the lovely ( :P ) pic of me at the bottom of the Facebook social plugin box on the front page.
(Most conversations is in Norwegian. Although I sometimes throw in English posts as well for the Oostrum bros and a friend from the UK )
The "latest map" section on the front page is very misleading; I can't help but understand "latest map released" rather than "latest map added to the database". IMO it should be "latest review" or something
After the old stuff is done, then you'll only see new releases
for now Puritan is using the news ticker to declare new releases and keep them on the front page for awhile
so for awhile, it's a temporary accommodation
One the front page, it has the name of the map in bold white text, followed by a description, followed by "Read More" in gray text that is hard to read. My natural inclination is to click on the bold white text. Would it be too much trouble to make that a link as well?
This is on the front page as the most recently added map:
Wonderful Christmas Time Author: James Stanfield Released: 2007-11-25 Score: 93 Mode: SP, COOP Difficulty Settings: Yes Requires: 1,4+ Sound/music: Music New Art: No New Cons: No
The information is highly inaccurate. WCT is a map for DukePlus, and it only works with DukePlus. So everything listed after Difficulty Settings is wrong. But the larger issue is, what is the point of downloading the map individually when the player would have to download DukePlus to play it, and the map is already included with DukePlus? Downloading the map separately is completely pointless. In fact, if anything the map versions included with DukePlus will be more recent.
Here is how it should read, and there should be no download for the map:
Wonderful Christmas Time Author: James Stanfield
Released: 2007-11-25
Score: 93
Mode: SP, COOP
Difficulty Settings: Yes
Requires: DukePlus
You must download (http://fissile.duke4.net/fissile_dukeplus.html)DukePlus to play this map (it is included)
Errrr....this forum is really pissing me off. I just wanted to edit my post above to fix the formatting problems (which were introduced by the WYSIWYG buttons), and it won't let me edit my post any more.
10 min. That's all you get.
10 min it's more than enough to edit a post. Else flamebait, flamewars...etc.
"You said that...."
"No you said that...."
"No you wrote...earlier..."
" No I didn't..."
Get the picture?? ;)
i see nothing wrong with having a map hosted here, even if it requires a mod.
though it would be nice to get the mod creator's permission to put a link on the map page to his fissle material page. think of it as a little free advertising ;)
This page should be enough (http://www.scent-88.com/mapbase/maps.html) 8)
It seems the forum is anti deep thoughts XD
That's not true.
We proposed a compromise about starting a whole bunch of threads & we're hosting maps that utilize his mod.
all his suggestions get discussed behind the scenes whether he knows it or not
seems this forum is pro deep thoughts. he just has to work a little harder for it ;)
^I'm sure Norvak was joking.
The reason I brought that to your attention is so that people could actually play the map. It has nothing to do with me personally. The review does explain that it requires DP, but if you just look at the requirements and download it, you will think you have a vanilla map, and then will be confused as to why it doesn't work. Again, I don't understand why the map is available as a separate download, rather than just providing a link to the mod. That makes about as much sense as having separate downloads for the maps from AMC TC.
I thought I read somewhere that Mr Stanfield stated that this was his only stand alone dukeplus release at a time ::)
don't know if Mike was joking or nor, but I was ;)
i'm not disagreeing with you about there being a download link to the dukeplus mod on the map review page. i don't have access to modify those pages.
at some point a sizable portion of those dukeplus maps were released separate from the mod itself, which were then integrated after the mod was updated.
so keeping that in mind
1) we're keeping up with tradition by reviewing them separately
2) we're not going to wait for an update to the mod if a new dukeplus map comes out. we're going to review it and host it
3) hypothetically it's possible for a person to have an older version of dukeplus with a certain map not included. maybe they only want the map
instead of updating their version of the mod (for what ever reason)
I would also like to bring up a few things about a person being "confused" about a dukeplus map they're downloading
it's mentioned in the review that dukeplus is required
it's mentioned in the template that dukeplus is required
right above the download link is a table of requirements; dukeplus is specifically mentioned and marked yes or no
if a person likes to play dukeplus maps and has the latest version, then they should be familiar with the maps available in the portal hallway and know whether their version has that map or not
after all that, if somebody downloads the map by mistake, then maybe they need the lesson to learn to pay attention

1) I agree and I never suggested otherwise. They SHOULD be reviewed as individual maps. Otherwise, it's not fair to the mappers, because the reviews will never be seen. Even if reviews of individual maps were included in a review of DukePlus (which is unlikely), not many people are going to find the reviews that way.
2) This particular map is over 4 years old so that's not an issue.
3) That's true, and in that case it makes sense to host the map separately. In fact I am pretty sure there are DukePlus maps out there which are not included with DukePlus and never will be (for whatever reasons). So those maps definitely should be hosted. If there is any question about which maps are included with DukePlus, someone can e-mail me and I will probably reply within 24 hours (if not, just host the map to be safe).
Again, the problem in this case was that the map description said it was a vanilla map, and then it had a download for just the map (which adds to the impression it is a vanilla map and didn't make sense for this particular map since it is included with DP).
Sometimes I see a good looking screenshot on the front page (well, besides the fact that they are cropped...) except that it doesn't tell what map it's from nor can I click on it to find out.
Adding hyperlinks to the Java images messes up the hole script.
A hint: The four header images is always the top four maps under the " Latest 10 maps" section on the front page ;)
Well, guys.
Until now most content on this site has been for Dukers/players.
Now we have opened up a brand new section on the front page for mappers.
It holds many programs and files that could be handy when you're sitting glued to your chair with Mapster32 in front of you.
Note that some files might be outdated but we'll keep 'em for nostalgic purposes. ( And DNR could go down at a stage). And this section is [w.i.p...] ;)
Enjoy!
Utilities page (http://www.scent-88.com/Utilities/index.html)
I like the Utilities Page. It'll be nice to have all that stuff (old & new ) easily accessible - my copies are stored all over the place on CDs and even floppies! The music's very soothing too. :D
Thank you, Kevin ;)
I'm working on it.
By now most of the essential stuff is bunged to the server.
I'll continue the uploads with not so important files.
If there is something you guys would like to see added, please come forward :)

This is a collection of tools and tidbits that I have been using to mod for Duke Nukem 3D and related games, and I think every modder could have a use for them. Feel free to contact me if you think something else should also be included in future releases. I do not own or claim to own any of these tools, but they are all included with their original documentation (and even in some cases source code.) I might have also added some things to these tools myself. (Such as an inclusion of a Duke3D palette for DoomCRAP's PaletteDump program or my custom EDITART package.) I realise that I have not asked permission from anyone to include any of these works in this package. In some cases there is no way to contact original authors of some of these old programs. FEBRUARY EDIT:
I'd recommend updating, especially if you are using the custom EDITART package or the 'optimized' palette I included. Turns out I somehow screwed up the colors on the white swatches. Either way, I replaced it with one made by CraigFatman, and he doesn't suck like me, so it looks like everything is proper now. There's a few new things here as well.
Thanks, Forge and Captain A. ;)
I certainly have something to dive into here.
Don't think it's a good idea to hide the map listing behind two buttons. It should be accessible from the main page.

I've thought about that myself when I updated the front page.
There is no more room for a link in the header....
But I consider removing the "Contact Us" link.
Or I could put the "Map listings" button from the Search page just below the "Latest map" part on the front page.
Should my speed mapping guide (which outlines some of the lesser known useful mapster32 features, as well as general tips) be in the utilities section? Only someone such as myself who has no life and prowls the Duke4.net forums all day can know some of that stuff :P
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vII1ILXvNjCYhdo-As7ndoKUbeXnHW8elS4ieZWWWTw/edit
^Yep, will add it in the "General FAQ's" department.
Thanks ;)
Clicking on the "download stupid SE 0 tricks" guide only comes up with a weird broken version of the front page.
Fixed.
Thanks ;)
Ehhh...the latest uploaded map: raid and Indy (http://www.scent-88.com/reviews/R/raidindy/raidindy.php) got a faulty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-oH-TELcLE) link.
My bad, will correct it later today.
Thanks to Forge for pointing it out :)
On the front page there's a set of pictures that show one at a time near the top, but how do you find out which map is being displayed?
check the screen shots of the last four or five maps that have been added
Help needed!
One user got an issue about how the review page for "Day after forever" is displaying. ( at least in Firefox )
The text and everything below the images and heading links is aligned to the far right side.
Now, I've tested the page with four different versions of IE and Opera including the latest versions without beeing able to recreate the mentioned error.
I've also been using different comp's and internet connection.
Does any of you have some problems with the page?
Day after forever (http://www.scent-88.com/reviews/F/foreverplus/foreverplus.php)
No.
If the problem was reported in Firefox you should start by looking at it in Firefox ::)
Man, why haven't I thought of that?? :P
I don't have time....
write it off as a browser quirk and ignore it until there are numerous complaints
Seems fine to me in Chrome (the one browser to rule them all).
The screenshots that appear randomly on the front page : I often wish it said which map they were from.
For example today there are two screenshots that are from maps I haven't played, it looks interesting, but it just doesn't say which maps they are.
edit : also the screenshots are obviously cropped but I guess I'll have to learn to deal with that
Those two :

^The images are always taken from the first four maps in the " Latest 10 maps" section on the same page. ;)
And the images on the front page are also identical with the first image you'll see in the review pages.
It can't be "clickable" images in the CSS header. ( It screws up the whole image carousel)
You don't recognize the classic Supa? :P
Puritan, you should analize what point makes all that botch in the site´s design. It´s obviously a mix of premade templates that don´t fit users´ needs. That carrousel of images you use in the reviews takes its time to load and shows all screenshots hideously stretched. The MOM site has candles and music? and a picture of some random guy? And then, the random screenshot at the front page, which is an issue for everybody.
Why don´t you just stick to some modest and functional design like DNR and MSN have?
We finally hit the 300 hosted projects mark
I like the screenshots changing often on the front page.
I just wish there was map names with it as well.
Not having them stretched would be a bonus.

How exactly does that happen? I see the images are named header1-4.jpg and are within a "slider" div so what happens if you surround each with a link tag?

I've tried it several times, believe me ;)
Hah! Solved it!
It was a conflict with the css codes for the start/stop feature in the carousel. ( you know when you're hover over the images an arrow appear on each side)
Thanks for kicking my but guys ;D
Not really front page related, but right now Puritan has 666 posts :-[
Although while I'm posting, good job on making the images clickable :D
Good !
I'd remove the target="_blank" bit though as it opens the pages in a new window.
Forge got LR&WB episodes mixed up. The first episode is Last Reaction and has all those different type of levels. The second episode is Water Bases and consists mostly of, well, water bases. You're meant to play Last Reaction first. The last map of this first episode is the stadium, which is also where the second episode (Water Bases) begins. If you're gonna fix this, you should change the order of the two paragraphs as well.
The numbers on the episode select menu are correct but they're in the "wrong" order, probably a French thing (for example, their lycée classes are seconde, première and terminale, in that order; they also count their collège classes "backward").
Nice catch. Took me a week to get through both episodes. Wasn't paying too much attention and just labeled them as the Menu labeled them then started jamming all my notes under the headings.
Think I need to fire my proof reader *cough*-Puritan-*cough* :)
Menu Label = 1. Last Reaction (episode 3). 2. Water Bases (episode 4)
Reality = 2. Water Bases (episode 3) 1. Last Reaction (episode 4)

And I've started to upgrade the review pages.
The header links are changed a bit and you'll now be able to find all the maps by the author on the same page as the current review.
It's far from done yet but I'm working on it.
Here is an example (http://www.scent-88.com/reviews/B/bob1/bob1.php)
Just noticed that, and it´s indeed cool. But a line saying something like "other maps by this author would not hurt.
Phew...finally done with the upgrading issues of the review pages.
Please let me know if there is some bugs present. ( I've found a couple along the way but there might be others that have slipped my eyes ??? )
Just noticed; The July 10th news post links to 'Ruin' and not their corresponding map reviews. 'Read more' however works fine. Bug?
Hah...thanks, quakis ;)
Yeah, it was a bug. The hole news column was actually pointing at "Ruin".
I can't seem to download Sang's "Project Whatever!" map. Every time I click to download it it just redirects, with ugly consequences, to the front page. Anyone having the same issues?
It's broke.
Puritan started his vacation around the same time he uploaded it, so it's possible that he was drunk or getting laid or both when he bunged it to the site

Thanks for letting us know.
This site is undergoing a major overhaul behind the scenes.
I'm afraid that something is slipping here and there.. :)
Don't know if you're still working on it but....
the download works, but the download link still has an odd redirect page associated with it
Can't say I'm able to spot any uggly download page assosiated with it.
You should refresh your browser or clear out some cookies.
For those who care:
Head on over to the "Map Search" or "Map Listings" pages.
A new link is now available for those of you who wanna take the download statistics closer to your eyes ;)
( The small search field on top left is not working atm)
maybe it's firefox acting up again, but every time i click the download button on any map page i get redirected to a page with nothing but a box at the top that has (replace "insert map name here" for whatever the real name is, i put that there as a filler):
You are downloading -insert map name here-
Please wait for few seconds for download to start.
If your download doesn't start in 5 seconds,
then Click Here to download -insert map name here-
there are no other links on the page to take me back to the site, so I have to hit the browser's back button to get back to the map review page
Works smooth as guacamole here. Both IE and Opera browsers...
But I've removed the redirect page just as an experiment.
Better now with Firefox??
works fine now
Excellent :)
I'll leave it as it is then.
I've added a total download counter on the Statistics page (http://www.scent-88.com/statistics/index.php) as well :)
I've also made a random image carousel with a link to review/download pages ;)
Right here (http://www.scent-88.com/statistics/index.php)
I like that total downloads table. It's very motivating to see that people are still downloading your old projects like the 1.5 hour CBP, and even Libraryl.
And wow, Parkade is the most downloaded map on the site? Holy cow! ??? :o :) :D ;D 8)
Yeah I realize that the site is still young and map downloads doesn't neccessarily correlate to map quality yet. Probably half the people downloaded it as a TROR tech demo ::)
Still it's got a user rating of 4.7 which isn't bad :D
The title to the latest upload (Russian Winter) is listed as "Winther"
Heh, thanks man. :)
A typo done in a hurry.
Not so much a front page thing, nor is it a major issue, but I just noticed that I am listed under two names.
'High_Treason' and 'Paul Monteray (High Treason)' on the Map Listings page... Oddly enough, I think the Space Mission actually does display a link to EDF Computer base (damn, that map was bloody awful!) on it's page though. It should simply read High Treason really, but by all means use one of the existing ones as they are still valid I guess... It's times like this where I regret changing my alias and not worrying about the internet knowing my name.
Actually, I also noticed that EDF Computer Base has a higher score than The Space Mission, I'm shocked at this, but that's a point for another thread.
Otherwise, everything seems to be as it should.
Corrected.
Thank you for letting me know ;)
A very good thing.
And i'm very surprised than the site got nearby 5000 downloads,it's pretty good to see than people are still search'in for good Duke items.
But we should be able to explore the ranks author by author or something must be done to make the research more easy.
^Not gonna happen. Sorry.
But we're glad that you appreciate our small contribution to the DN3D community ;)
Here's a couple more suggestions that aren't going to happen,
On the Front page: News and Special Events are redundant. Do away with special events and copy the Random Map Generator from the Map Listings page to that slot.
There's a big "dead" grey area below the Random Map Generator on the Map Listings page. Move the Search engine from the Map Database page to that area and do away with the Map Database page. That will also open up a slot in the header of the Front page.
All of 'em have been considered before ;)
Requires either to much work or it's technical reasons for not doing it.
Well guys.
A couple of small updates if you haven't seen it already:
The "News" page has been overhauled.
The "Map Listings" page now got all maps rated between 100-80 sorted by rating in the centre column.
;)
Another small update:
The Map Listings (http://www.scent-88.com/mapbase/maplistings.php) page is upgraded a little bit. ;)
Apparently CBP 8 has a user rating of 1.2 out of 5 and 171 votes. Someone must have spammed the votes with 1's :'(
Is there a way to fix it? http://www.scent-88.com/reviews/C/cbp8/cbp8.php
Somebody's got too much time on their hands and too little brain capacity :P
Nice. You removed my post because of abusing a flawed system in sake of justice. 173 votes and 1 of 5 stars ::) for a map otherwise known as great. I don´t seem to be the only turtle that has escaped from your hands.
There is a board for spam.
This topic isn't. Should be pretty obvious.
Well, I'm playing around with the "Search pages".
That old stale blue background is now history :P
This is wip!
And now there is snow on the front page :P ;D
( I think can hear a distant laughter coming in the winds all the way from South America ;D )
interesting screen shot you have under the latest map heading on the front page. nostromo making a secret come back release?
Heh....a bad sql query, it is.
Thanks ;)

Works perfectly with me on three different computers and browsers ;)
Edit: from the top of my head: It's your browser that should have a cookie clean.
I think that should do the trick.
Yeah it worked fine here :)
Just saw by accident that Ruin, well-known map by Stranger is marked as the map by Puritan in review! ???
http://www.scent-88.com/reviews/R/ruin/ruin.php
Somebody's got to fix that. ;)
Also, this map didn't exist: http://www.scent-88.com/reviews/D/dwarrant/warrant.php
Both fixed.
Thanks Sanek :)
I've been working quite a lot behind the scene around here as of lately.
So you might encounter this kind of bugs scattered around.
's bad when you've made so many maps you can't keep track of them all
AMC TC download button leads to usermap, not to mod.
^Thanks again, Sanek :)
I'm messing around with a guestbook / comment box these days.
Maybe I'll add a modified version of the guestbook to each review for visitors to post comments about the maps ;)

Oh yeah? ;D
is it just me, or are there a couple of messed up screenshots in the carrousel for ecclesia?
Works perfectly here with both Opera and IE :)
yeah, now they are working fine, the first time around though i did have to refresh the page while reading that review because it looked like my browser wasn't displaying them completely. basically only the upper half the screenshots were displayed and the bottom half was a solid color as though the picture wasn't loading properly. not much of an issue though, now it's fine and even the first time around what i did see and read did make me want to download it, looks like a fairly original map !
that was the same problem for me, after shutting down my browser and restarting it, they look fine
Hmmmm....could it be that the file transfer from my pc to the server was somewhat corrupted?
We're having a storm around here tonight and the lights are flickering.
Variations in the electrical current i assume.
So you see what's going on over at Steam?
http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=225140&p=1
Now they have a workshop for uploading and hosting maps
termit over at Duke4 will give you a steam key if you PM him so you can post maps without having to buy a game to get an account
short term it's great for the community to get much needed exposure
long term; if i feel like writing reviews is pointless now except as my own entertainment, wait a year or so for their reservoir to catch up with the one on this site and maps are going directly from release to their hosting page
(and the rumor mill is churning up hints of an eduke workshop for more attention to that port and to compensate for projects not compatible with the megaton edition)
Yeah but don't forget that many people won't buy megaton because they already have the expansion packs (or don't want them) and don't feel like playing an inferior port. Not to mention even the most basic things like episodes aren't supported, let along Dukeplus maps, TROR, mods (not sure about custom textures).
But yeah that possible workshop-like site for eduke32 sounds interesting, but I also have the feeling it might take a long time for it to reach its potential. Review sites I think will still be relevant. When I upload my maps there, I'll link the reviews from here and MSDN (if they're favorable of course).
It could be a good idea... Problem though, I cannot use the PM system at Duke4.net.
review sites validate the mapper's time and skills with praise and/or constructive criticism. i don't think their "purpose" will ever be completely diminished.
it's a nice little boost to the ego; unless you're Gambini and you don't need anyone to tell you how great you are
i just think in the long run people may shift gears on the methods they acquire their maps and may depend primarily on a comments page to get their feedback. Map hosting pages will be "secondary"
Forge´s Crystal ball!
So long as you mention my name in every post, you´re free to predict the future.
i predict Gambini will have many a butt-baby litter from my seed :)
if eduke32 actually does implement a workshop like the megaton edition (as well as getting multiplayer working), then the next gen of mappers aren't really going to be concerned with third-party hosting sites
nobody here but us old timers too set in our ways
That´s disgusting! :o
I agree
map hosting sites no longer being as valid as they used to be is a disgusting prospect
Well just make sure you finish reviewing those old classics at least, which is important because many of those mappers might not be around to post up their own maps to this upcoming eduke workshop thing.
Quote from: High Treason on 21 December 2013, 06:03:56
It could be a good idea... Problem though, I cannot use the PM system at Duke4.net.
So... Anyone kind enough to contact this termit guy for me? Otherwise, is there some other way I can contact him?
If you give me your email address I could send it to him and he might give you a code. Are any of your maps even compatible with megaton? IIRC a lot of them were either polymer, a mod, or used TROR.
E-mail address is PAU174u[at]AOL.com, can be confirmed by checking the AIM entry on my Duke4.net profile or templates from my maps.
I do not know about compatibility, I think Quantum Physics should work as it didn't use anything special (Technically it would compatible with the DOS game for the most part) and any future maps, some updates and other stuff would likely be compatible too as I've made a point of not using extended features so I figure it's best to have access than not just in case it takes off... Not that I'd ditch Scent-88 because I like it around here.
You should have an email with the code now.
Indeed. It works too.
Thank you Micky and Termit. I'll have to apply some minor alterations but Quantum works under megaton, just needs some visuals tweaking... My WIP map seems to function fine too.
This thing might not backfire on these review sites as I could leave a note stating there's an EDuke version elsewhere with additional effects - although I am unsure as to whether doing that would go down well with the megaton guys - I'll have to think about it.
As a last note, the mouse aiming is... strange.
People don't really read the descriptions much anyway. But I don't see any harm in leaving the note.
If the tweaking you're talking about is shading, you might want to hold off a bit because apparently eduke32's "proper" shading is going to be ported over to megaton to replace its 10 year old crappy shading.
Nah, it wasn't the shading, it was the waves, clock and similar counters. I'm in the process of inventing a new timer as the "5-second-rule" appears to be a little more strict for shooters in Megaton... Or it could be targets, either way I'm sure I'll be hearing that rhythmic "flump" sound of the shrinker hitting things a lot over the next few days.
The fireworks on the front page is a nice touch.

I've been messing around with the search page today :)
You can have a look here (http://www.scent-88.com/mapbase/maps.html)
looks pretty nice
aside from the green background, i like the format better than the front page
seems easier to navigate with the table of links on the side of the page instead at the top.
also seems the "Come Get Some ! Is a site driven by fans..." blurb in the sky blue box on the front page should be at the top instead of the links. for some reason that blue box just makes me want to stop scrolling down every time i get to it - like i've hit the bottom of the page.
The problem with this site is that it lacks constitency, every page looks completely different and it's confusing.
it's easy to miss stuff. not so much that every page looks different, but the linking system is inconsistent.

Almost done :)
Spent far too much time on this... ah, well.
Expect a launch of the "new" site this weekend.
It's gonna be a very minimalistic layout with no fancy stuff.
And the color scheme would suit the forums, I think.
looks nice and clean
the background color may be a little bland
the utilities page still gets me lost with the odd linking system
Heh...thanks :)
I don't care much about the Utilities page....
In fact, I left it out from the new pages.
Only implemented it in the last minute as a " for historical purposes" item.
My sincere congratulations on a well done and well-taken-care-of site, Frode!! :)

That makes sense, since it's lacking several things although they're available at other places. Still it's nice to have those old DNR guides on there. I used the 'stupid SE 0 tricks' one just a few weeks ago for the first time.
If you were ever going to update it in the future, there ought to be a button to take the user straight back to the home page. And that even though most people have a huge screen, all the utilities content is restricted to a tiny bubble in the middle which makes scrolling through everything cumbersome.
i like the map scroller on the front page, but its organization seems a bit weird
maps appear to be added in an odd order, normally the latest map added would be the one to the far left and everything else would shift one spot to the right.
it looks like the uploads start at the far left and when a new addition is added it's placed to the immediate right of the last one.
it's just seems odd the the latest one bunged to the server is in the middle of the rotation
Requires far too much work to. :-\
i'll take your word for it
btw island base doesn't require dukeplus. it's just recommended.
i played it both ways and there are no real dukeplus features that make the mod necessary, but with the odd placement of health it helps to have the additional medkit storage for the first half.
Where does it say that DukePlus is required?

For you DukePlus lovers out there the author is back with a new version of this map originally released in 2008.

Is it just me or have the user votes on maps been reset? I've had a look at some maps and they either have the standard 3 votes, or none. I'm sure they had votes in the past.

Haven't touched 'em at all.
Had a look at "Turok":
6 votes cast , 4,5/5
Also checked the database tables.
Everything is looking good.
Don't forget that the code for the five-star rating system is written so that you must cast a vote in order to see the total votes.
That systen will give the most accurate and balanced votes.
Many would have rated the way others have rated if the results were displayed up front.
Now, you must make up your own mind and pick your choice.

There is a glitch or a mistake on the front page, in the slideshow "WGDM3 by William Gee" shows screenshots of Fakir Babas Place by Geoffrey.

This issue will go away tonight when I'm uploading the next map.

Yesterday this site reached the 10 million milestone of hits within two years. ( known bots/spiders not counted).
Also last week was the first week with more than 100,000 hits. (103,091).
Fantastic, good to hear that the site is growing :)
The forum might not always be super active but the map database/reviews and other features are just as important if not more so.
The shots don't match the names again.
Which one in particular?
Can't find any anomalies.
Shots 2, 3, 4 and 5 don't correspond to their names.
Shot 2,3,4,5 do correspond to their names actually...
You seem to have some browser issues. Try F5
Cool, that did it. Was browsing in Chrome, I wonder if others were getting the same thing.
That might happen when your cache is "overload".
I've uploaded six entries today.
I myself sometimes have to refresh the cookie cache in order to see new images as well.
I'm running both Opera and IE also Win 8,1 and XP.
So, the old stale orange DN3D image is now history.
Thanks to Duke64Nukem for creating our new image :)

I hope it will ironing out that particular bug.

Well, it doesn't seemed to work everywhere.
Instead I've inserted a button that calls for a java script that reloads content.

Nice :)
Edited the entry.
Yeah, I know. Two images are missing on the carousel on the front page.
New entries will fill the gap.
The reason for this is that I'm working on a new image feature around here ;)
Yet another lttle feature sees the light of day here at CGS.
A tribute to some of the best maps uploaded here with more and larger screenshots.

See your inbox ;)
I was wondering if it might be cool for dukers to have their own live video chat room here at CGS?
It can be easily implementet on the site.
The app will allow up to eight users online.
Free of charge and no password/user name necessary ;)
Doubt there's much call for it, most people just exchange their Skype details when they want to talk I think...
Though if you did implement such a system, I'd be sure to come and terrorize it.
I'm moving the sites content to a new web server this weekend.
The reason would be an upgrade from PHP 5.3 to ver 5.5.
The site might be a bit slow from time to time.
I hope it will not cause to much trouble :)
Edit: Seems that something went wrong in the process causing the complete download table to disappear ???
My eyes are red and moisty by now.
I'll try to sort it out tomorrow night CET.
Astral is by David J Reid
http://www.scent-88.com/reviews/A/astral/astral.php
Done, thanks :)
Some of you might noticed that the site was down several hours last night (CET) returning either a 503 or 404 error.
That was not me ;D
It was a massive power failure in the building where my hosts servers are located.
Of course, when the diesel generators kicked in it caused some sort of overload to the systems.
Such a quality backup power system.
The front page has undergone a little overhaulin' as of today.
Hopefully the front page is possible to read on pads and phones as well.
It's built on the latest HTML 5 and CSS 3.
If you encounter errors, broken links and so on I'd appreciate a note about it here :)
(the "latest 4 maps..." slider is a bit buggy)
front page works fine on a phone here. took me a minute to locate where to click to access the forums though ; the menu thing appears in the upper right corner of the image for the recently added maps which is a little confusing (you don't instantly recognize it's a functional menu, especially because it's semi-transparent). maybe it would need its own tab (or maybe it doesn't matter because i am not sure a lot of people access duke sites from their phone anyway, they are gamers for the most part therefore probably use PC's). besides that it's working all right i think !
Sorry guys.
In order to rebuild the site to meet new requirements from server host and Googles policy about kicking out sites that is not phone / pad-friendly I had to take down all reviews.
Now, I could open pages such as: Hall of Fame, Mapper of the Month, Statistics and the News page, but I find it rather useless since there is no maps available atm.
I'm working on a solution for the reviews / maps :)
Why would your host require something like that? Isn't that your problem?
Quote from: MSandt on 07 August 2015, 23:26:21

Could be bad explained from me...
The server host doesn't allow certain php scripts inside the www-area anymore.
The review pages holds a couple of 'em each.....counting some 2200 bad scripts :P
So, when I'm forced to take action about the review pages anyway, it is a good time to prepare for the upcoming Google policy.
Yeah it's annoying, just have to get used to the fact that most people browse websites on their phones or something.
Update:
This is how it's gonna look like on the reviews.
Testmap (http://www.scent-88.com/reviews/A/aftertwin/aftertwin.php)
Note that the links on the "Other maps by this author" doesn't work as of yet.
Update.
The front page is back up.
All maps on the various areas on front page is having valid links to review.
They're also downloadable.
Since I have to modify 2-3 thousand php files it will be a slowly comeback for the map/review repository.
I also have to resize some 12,000 images.
Note that some links here and there is not working as of yet.
Sorry for the inconvenience guys but I'm workig my ass off in order to rebuild the site :)
Wow that all sounds like a lot of work :o
Yeah it sounds unpleasant, it sucks you're forced to do it but it's definitely appreciated at least to keep the reviews up.
sounds like you're going through hell for the cause, thanks for your work and best of luck
It's looking really good!!!
I know its a sloppy workaround but can you batch resize all the images if they are supossed to be the same size? with irfanview for example.

Thanks mate :)
There is no way to batch resize since the images aren't in the same folder and they also must be two different size outputs.
They're in some 1100 hundred folders along with a dozen other JPG/PNG/GIF's.
But of course; I do batch resize folder by folder.....after all; it is 12 images in each folder related to screenshots, so there is a little shortcut in there for me.

The map listing page is missing a whole bunch of links to maps all over the place. Like the authors are listed but some of them have blank spaces under them. Is anyone else getting this?
Man, what a never ending job :P
As of just now I've re-created 337 reviews.
My main priority is to add those maps that shows up on the front page ( On this day....).
Then the map listings page is next.....
I'm working my way down the two coloumns side-by-side if you know what I mean.
I've just started off with Taivo Maripuu. Next one out will be Thobias Fast (Loke).
I think all links above Taivo is now valid. (except the Community listings).
Links below Taivo is yet to be finished (some are done....some aren't yet).
Of course, any submissions holding a review and images will override my priority list ;)
Small update:
All links on the "Map listings" page is now valid as far as to William Gee in which I'm currently working on.
Think I've resurrected some 500 maps by now.
Just wondering, how much I can download from the site, and how long is this "short time span"? For example, I want to download about 10 maps, one after another - can I get ban for this, or is it alright?
Ten in a row might get you banned from the scripts used.
Spread it out in....say 10 minutes and it should be okay.
Phew....
I've resurrected 800 reviews as of today.
More than 250 hours spent so far.
I felt it was time to put back the "Who want some" on the left column in the maplistings page.
Of course, since there still are missing some 280 reviews you might encounter authors with no maps/links ready yet.
But the chances of detours are decreasing each day.
Cheers guys!
You owe me a few reviews of my own maps, mister. ;)
And well done on the site, each time looking better.
Finally!
All maps/reviews are back up again.
(two months of hard work it was)
Also the "Search" page is up and running.
All pages should now meet the requirements for displaying this sites content on all platforms.
Meaning that the content is displaying nicely on all resolutions and screen sizes (cell phones, pads and all kinds of monitors).
congratulations on finally getting it done and thanks for all the work !
Congrats on having the patience to get through all that work!
Reminds me that I'll have to do some mobile-device compatibility for my own site once I get back to it. Sigh.
Just a small heads up: The fee is paid.
CGS will be around yet another year.
Also upgraded my account with the host, resulting in more server space available.
Keep on mapping! :D
Small update.
This site should now also be available via IPv6.
For some odd reason the availability was configured for IPv4 only by default on the server.

Hi all
I'm logged in from a remote place without access to my admin tools....
I learn that my host is undergoing a huge facelift these days.
All servers are migrated and both SQL and PHP are upgraded.
This has caused many broken paths and unstable sql queries.
I'll look into it as soon as I return home some time the next week.
Sorry for the inconvenience this is causing.

Sorry for the lack of updates, guys.
The last year been like annus horribilis to me...
And now I'm on the move. Meaning that I have limited access to servers and such.
Not to mention time... :P
Hopefully, I'll be settled in our new house at the end of October.
Since we've reached more than 1200 maps available here at CGS the "Map listings" page became a little bit too large.
I've implemented scrollboxes to shorten the page.

Glad I had a few days of my vacation to spend on this...
I've switched to PHP 7.1 on the server.
As of now all pages should work properly.
But guess what....the SMF forum software didn't coop very well with PHP 7 :P
So, as for now, you may encounter slow downs and other bugs.
Hopefully, the SMF team will ironing out the compability issues before PHP 5.6 goes offline on my server host in December.
