A city styled map. The level is broken down into three main tiers. The upmost section is the city street and a couple of buildings. The indoor areas are fairly well done and detailed, but the street portion seems underdone mainly due to the plain and empty background scenery, and all the construction and detailing lumped in one spot. The second tier consists of the subway train and a couple of stations. Aside from only having one train on a pretty long track that may cause the player to do some extra waiting around for a ride this is the best looking portion of the level. Nice lighting effects and strong shading go a long way to create a run down and semi-abandonedatmosphere.
The bottom tier is the underground tunnels. It's a mix of cave and underwater passages with a maze like layout. The downside to this section is it's almost completely dark making it very difficult to navigate. Some of the tunnels are blocked by planking that requires a pipebomb to get through, but since you can't see anything it's easy to think that it's a dead end instead. Luckily there are no enemies in these narrow winding black tunnels or this part would be that much worse. I recommend using the map overlay if you get stuck. Aside from trying to get through the tunnels like a blind person, just finding this section is annoying. The door to get down to the bottom tier is at one of the subway stations. Good luck figuring out which door and when it becomes unlocked. If I had to hazard a guess it would be when the red key is used way on the other side of the map. It opens up a small one room office with absolutely nothing significant in it other than a switch to shut off the escalator conveyor.
If you can overlook these game play inconveniences it's worth a try.
