A small city block styled map.
It has some street sections, and alley way, a large outdoor theatre, and a few indoor sections. It's pretty well detailed and constructed. Everything is nice and trimmed up, the shading is strong, and there are all kinds of ledges and nooks and crannies to climb around on.
The layout is pretty much wide open; there are no locks per say, but some doors can only be opened from one side, and there are a couple unreachable areas until the jetpack is located.

Game play is about collecting enough equipment to reach and kill the boss all the while fighting off the droves of aliens lurking in just about every recess.
The level starts out pretty rough as Duke is dropped at the end of a street with almost minimal firepower and enemies closing in from all directions. It's easy to run out of ammunition and get shot full of holes in those first few minutes.
Taking cover and happening upon some more weapons and bullets makes the difference. Once that initial engagement is survived it's pretty much all about exploring and gathering.
