A high tech and industrial styled base located in a frozen valley.
The map mostly resembles a futuristic power station as it is loaded with reactor styled rooms, but also has elements of a military laboratory with alien infested women being held in stasis. There are several control rooms, cooling towers which lend to underwater sections, and several series of corridors on multiple floors connected by lifts and staircases.
A little creative acrobatics at the beginning can get the player into the out of bounds area, but this only gains a better view of the location or getting squished.
The layout is very extensive, but navigation is mostly linear with a few instances of backtracking or hubs with a couple of passages leading off in different directions.
Game play is a mix of key card hunting and switch throwing. The usually method of progression requires going down one branch from a hub to get a key or find a switch which unlocks a door back at the junction. There's a good chance the player will have company on the way back.
Combat can be difficult at times. Although the arsenal is stacked, there is plenty of ammunition, and health paks are abundant; some of the combat setups will put the player in restrictive areas and facing some tough customers. Though a bit unfair, it is survivable, especially if you aren't shy with the trigger.
Compounding the difficulty there are a lot of explosion traps and a situation where the player has to solve multiple switch and button puzzles while the ceiling is rapidly collapsing.
A very challenging map and I would suggest saving often and then more so towards the end.
